Dermaplaning, also referred to as “blading”, "epi-leveling" or “epic-blading”, is a highly effective and safe manual exfoliation procedure performed by a qualified skin therapist. Using a medical-grade sterile blade to gently glide over the surface of the skin and effectively removing the keratinised epidermal skin cells that are ready to be removed and have accumulated over time and fine, vellus hair.
By removing the keratinised cells, active ingredients in skincare can better penetrate deeper into the skin layers, resulting in healthier skin. This treatment also stimulates the production of new skin cells by aiding in cell turnover.
Conditioning Alkaline Wash is an effective exfoliating and hair removal procedure. It softens, swells and dissolves unwanted facial hair and keratinised cells, by taking the pH of the skin to the opposite end of the scale, causing skin cells to soften and unwanted hairs to dissolve. It can be used in many ways and may help to improve skin concerns such as; pigmentation, hyperpigmentation, mild acne, scarring, ageing, blackheads and congestions.
Dermaplaning and alkaline wash produce similar outcomes, both removing vellus hair and deeply exfoliating the skin, but they perform completely different. Dermaplaning uses manual exfoliation through a surgical blade, where as alkaline wash is a chemical peel that can dissolve skin and hair. with its unique formula. Alkaline wash will destruct the hair follicle and reduce the rate of growth of vellus hair over time, whereas dermaplaning will only temporarily remove the hair from the surface. Alkaline wash may appear similar to dermaplaning but essentially works at a deeper level in the skin, leaving dermaplaning more suitable for surface exfoliation. Dermaplaning is pregnancy safe, alkaline wash isn't. These treatments cannot be performed together as they work on similar outcomes.
Alkaline wash works by raising the pH of the skin from a normal acidic pH value of 5.5, taking the pH up to the opposite end of the pH scale resulting in an alkaline pH of 12. This causes an immediate swelling of the outer cellular layers of the hair follicle and keratinocyte, softening the skin and facilitating removal from the skin's surface.
After your first treatment, the hair will grow back at its normal rate, but as treatments progress hair regrowth will become slower and the hair will weaken; usually resulting in a permanent reduction in growth over a period of time.
The treatment is completely pain-free, however in some cases the area can appear red and warm and subsides after a short period of time
